Differing Exposure to Parental Unemployment and Children’s Educational Attainment

Research on poverty finds that the number and duration of poverty spells children experience is directly related to the long-term impact of poverty on children’s educational attainment. Building on the poverty research I examine how the number and duration of parental unemployment spells impacts children’s educational attainment. This paper extends the prior research on parental unemployment by considering if amount of exposure children have to parental unemployment moderates children’s educational attainment.
