The Desired Sex of Next Child: Through the Family Composition of Three Generations in Manipur (India)

The traditional Indian family is generally consisted of three generations having strong bondage among the family members. Such bondage has a significant role in the desire sex of the next child in the family. It exposes the child bearing women consequently for high pregnancy rate to fulfill the specific desire of all family members. The study is contributed to explore the desired level of next child sex among the family members. The Agreement analysis and Odds Ratio are applied to measure the level of desire of next child sex. The three generations including the child bearing age couples are considered as the family members. The level of desire about son by wife (4.73) is found higher than that of her husband (3.42). The behavioral pattern influences the balance of sex ratio in Indian population. As such son preference may be reduced to achieve the balance of sex ratio in India.
