Universalizing Healthcare Coverage in Delhi: Strengthening Health System Preparedness with Monitoring-Framework of Population Health

The National Capital Territory (NCT) of Delhi, India is on the mission to reach health services to all its residence through affordable, accessible and quality healthcare means. Certainly this Universal Health Coverage (UHC) calls for utmost preparedness for state-run healthcare system to be efficient in reaching such broad goal, based on constant evidences on epidemiological and demographic transitions. The scope for applied demographic knowledge thus becomes enormous to make the state’s health system geared for appropriate implementation of strategies. The recently released Human Development Report of Delhi identifies the absence of facility-based disease surveillance system and an integrated electronic backbone as some of the major hindrance for information flow on several service delivery aspects. The paper suggests an excel application oriented monitoring-framework to collate information from various official sources and to come up with handful indicators of paramount importance, to ensure UHC agenda.
